Obama Disrespects Our Staunchest Ally, the UK with Ineptness
First,
the inept one returns a bust of Winston Churchill that was given to the US as
a symbol of strength from the UK after the 9-11 attack. Then, the UK's Gordon
Brown makes his first visit as Prime Minister to meet Obama and Obama treats him
like a chump.
Traditionally, when a head of state makes their first visit to
the new head of state in the US, gifts chosen with great care are exchanged.
Gordon
Brown gave Obama a pen holder made from the oak timber of HMS Gannet, a Navy vessel
that served on anti-slavery missions off Africa. This is the same wood that was
used to make the desk in the Oval Office. Brown also gave Obama a framed commissioning
paper for the HMS Resolute, the Royal Navy ship that has symbolized British-American
goodwill after it was rescued by the US from icebergs and given to Queen Victoria.
It's the sister ship of the HMS Gannet. Lastly, Brown gave Obama Brown gave Obama
a first edition of Martin Gilbert's seven-volume biography of Winston Churchill,
who partnered with President Franklin Roosevelt and symbolized the US-Anglo alliance.
Sarah
Brown, the Prime Minister's wife, gave each of Obama's children an outfit from
Topshop, a British clothing store, and six children's books by British authors
which have not yet been published in the US.
What special gift did Obama choose
for the Prime Minister? A set of 25
DVDs of classic American movies and two toy Marine One helicopters for his
children. Maybe Obama made a special trip to WalMart. By the way, Brown is not
a big fan of movies.
Obama has spent his first two months in office throwing
lavish parties with Kobe beef steaks that cost $100 a pound, fine wine, entertains
with Earth, Wind and Fire and Stevie Wonder, Michelle wears expensive designer
dresses.
