The mid-term elections are over and just a few races are still in doubt. While much of the country went to the democrats, California, a huge "Blue" state went to the Republicans by holding onto the governor's seat and ousting the remaining democrats from the major seats.
Turning to the House of Representatives that went to the democrats for control after about 12 years of GOP leadership, we get to watch Nancy Pelosi take center stage. She is expected to be the Speaker of the House. While many, if not most, Republicans are glum this morning after, TLG takes a different view. This is now a great time for the democrats to do what they do best, display their hypocrisy.
Firstly, there were rumblings from the liberals of voter fraud well before the election. Some democrats announcing they would seek a turnover in the results even before the first votes were counted. Now, the day after, the democrats have taken control of the House and possibly the Senate, not a word about voter fraud or exclusion or broken machines or confusing ballots. The GOP, on the other hand, have accepted their losses. However, if any states are close and the democrats lose, they will scream "Fraud!" and demand a recount or sue.
Soon, the fun will begin! Nancy Pelosi will be in front of the public day after day. The San Francisco democrat is a member of the "Progressive" Caucus. "Progressive" being an euphemism for liberal lunatics. She likes to be thought of as an environmentalist. However, the wealthy (over $50 million) liberal's largest investment was CordeValle Golf Club, 275 acres, in San Martin, CA. Somehow, she was able to avoid California's strict environmental regulations regarding the coast. By the way, it's all but impossible for the general public to use the facilities. Nancy Pelosi and her staff refuse to answer questions regarding the club.
The Pelosi's wealth is not invested in any manufacturing companies. While she decries outsourcing, her investment portfolio is filled with companies that outsource most of their business to Asia. As a matter of fact, it's difficult to find any business in her portfolio that does not outsource.
While Pelosi talks about affordable housing, she doesn't appear to be concerned with it personally. In San Francisco she has about $10 million invested in real estate trusts. All are in exclusive areas and none contribute to affordable housing. As an example, when the former military facility, the Presidio, was discussed, environmentalists wanted a park, others wanted affordable housing. Nancy joined developers in denying any affordable housing or parks. So much for being aligned with the poor and the environment. The hypocrisy of Nancy Pelosi could fill volumes.
What Pelosi and her liberal friends should ask themselves is "What went wrong in California?" Incumbent liberal Diane Feinstein's battle was easy against the relatively unknown Mountjoy from the GOP. The largely do-nothing position of Lt. Governor went narrowly to democrat Garamendi. The liberals lost the Governorship to Arnold. The Republicans took the seat for the, Insurance Commissioner. Former democrat Governor "Moonbeam," Jerry Brown, won the seat for Attorney General.
In last summer's hotly contested race to fill convicted Duke Cunningham's seat, Republican Bilbray just edged out leftist Francine Busby in a special election. However, last night Bilbray soundly trounced the liberal extremist. Busby must be wondering why she was the only liberal left out in the cold. Well, it's probably because her catering to illegal aliens and anti-military stance doesn't sit well with citizens that border Mexico and where the Marines and Navy call home. Move to the Bay Area, Francine.
Now, for the good news. The democrats, while taking control of the House and probably the Senate, have nowhere near the two-thirds majority needed to override a presidential veto. This was not the landslide victory when the Republicans took power from the democrats in 1994. Nothing will get through congress without the President's approval. Unlike Clinton, this president already has a great legacy and it has nothing to do with his "private" life.
